The Retail and Service Platform We Built and Run Ourselves

Before we build an operational system for another business, we run one ourselves. Our in-house platform handles point of sale, repair tickets, invoicing, payments, inventory, and an online catalog for a working computer retail and repair operation.

It is the reason we scope this kind of project the way we do. The awkward parts of retail software — partial payments, a repair that turns into a sale, a vendor feed that disagrees with the shelf — are problems we have had to solve for ourselves, in production, with real customers waiting.

Retail software usually stops where the real work starts.

A store that both sells products and repairs them does not fit neatly into a product-only POS or a ticket-only service tool. The counter, the bench, and the website end up as three systems that disagree, and staff become the integration layer.

We wanted one system where a repair, a sale, an invoice, and a payment are the same record viewed from different angles.

One operation, one record.

The platform treats the customer and the job as the centre, with sales, repair work, invoicing, and payment attached to them rather than living in separate tools.

Everything that touches money or inventory is written down. Adjustments are recorded rather than overwritten, so an unexpected number can always be traced back to the action that caused it.

What it does

Capabilities.

Counter and bench

  • Point-of-sale checkout for in-store purchases
  • Repair and work-order tickets from intake through completion
  • Customer and company records shared across sales and service
  • Role-based staff access to administrative functions

Money

  • Invoicing with partial and multi-invoice payment handling
  • Refunds and returns recorded against the original sale
  • Recurring and subscription billing
  • Tax and shipping rules applied by jurisdiction and zone

Inventory and catalog

  • Inventory movements tied to sales, repairs, and returns
  • Vendor and supplier catalog ingestion
  • Product content and imagery for the public storefront
  • Online orders and checkout connected to the same inventory

Traceability

  • Append-only audit history for register and administrative activity
  • Recorded reasons for financial adjustments
  • Operational reporting across sales, service, and payments
  • Automated checks that flag records needing human attention

How it is built.

The platform is a custom application over a structured database, with migrations, role-based authorisation, audit logging, and background jobs for catalog and reporting work. It is maintained the same way we maintain client systems.

Why it matters to your project.

Running our own operation on software we wrote means the estimates we give you come from experience rather than a specification sheet.

When we say a workflow will be awkward, or that a vendor feed will need reconciliation, it is because we have already had to live with the version of that decision we got wrong.

Where it stands

In daily production use for our own retail and repair operation. It is an internal system rather than a product offered for sale.
